Born on 5 October 1864 son of the Rev George T Ward, of Stanton St Bernard, Wilts, he was educated at Moneton and St George's Hospital, where he won prizes, medals, and exhibitions, and was assistant demonstrator of anatomy in the medical school. In the Hospital he held various resident posts and became surgical registrar and anaesthetist. After serving as clinical assistant at the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital, Moorfields, he interested himself in dermatology and syphilis and was appointed surgeon to the Lock Hospital. During the war of 1914-18 he served as resident medical officer to the Red Cross Hospital for Officers, Torquay 1914-17, and subsequently served with the temporary rank of Captain in the RAMC. He practised at 31 Grosvenor Street, London W, and lived at Denmark Hill. He retired to Grève d'Azette, Jersey, where he died on 21 February 1942, aged 77, during the second world war, while the island was under German occupation.
