:
S J Bhishikar qualified from Nagpur University in 1963, and held three resident posts at Nagpur Medical College Hospital before proceeding to England. During 1965-66 he held senior resident posts at three hospitals in Cornwall, and became house surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske in 1968. He was senior house officer at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon in 1969-71 but then returned to Cornwall as surgical registrar at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
In the meantime he had successfully passed the Fellowships of England and Edinburgh.
Unfortunately before he was able to take up a post for which he had been selected at the Plymouth General Hospital, he was killed in a car accident in India in April 1972, aged 32.
