Details
Educated at Cambridge and at St George's Hospital, where he was house physician and resident obstetric assistant after qualifying in 1923. He proceeded to his Cambridge degrees in 1926, and took the Fellowship in 1932. During the second world war he served with the rank of lieutenant-Colonel in the RAMC. He was created OBE in 1942 for his services. Subsequently he was Deputy Director of Medical Services at the Headquarters of British Troops in Egypt. He was next stationed at Fleetwood Barracks, Preston, Lancashire as President of the Standing Medical Boards of the Western Command, with the rank of Brigadier.
