Born about 1892, Gill graduated in science at Manchester and studied medicine at Aberdeen, qualifying in 1906, with first class honours in medicine and surgery. After clinical training at the London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals, he was senior house surgeon first at Leicester Royal Infirmary and then at the David Lewis Northern Hospital, Liverpool. He served in the RAMC through the war of 1914-18, and took the Fellowship in 1920. He then settled in practice at Hall and became consulting surgeon to the Infirmary; he lived at 118 Park Avenue. In retirement he moved to Storth, Milnthorpe, Westmorland, where he died in July 1966 aged about seventy-four.
