Details
Alfred Hobson was educated at George Dixon's School, Edgbaston, and later at Birmingham University, graduating from there in 1925. After the usual house appointments he took the Fellowships of England and Edinburgh in 1928. A few years later he was appointed general surgeon to Battersea General Hospital where he gave devoted service until his retirement in 1967. During the second world war Hobson was stationed at Kingston in the EMS and at that time he joined the staff of Nelson Hospital, Merton, an appointment which he also kept until retirement. Hobson combined a busy hospital practice with a considerable amount of insurance work, and this he kept up until his death. He was an active Freemason attaining high rank and was an active member of many lodges including that of the Aesculapius Lodge at Guy's, where he was secretary of the Chapter and treasurer of the Combined Charities Chapter. He died at the age of 68 on 10 November 1970 and was survived by his wife and three daughters.
