Nicholas Talbot Hamilton was a consultant surgeon at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. He was born in Melbourne on 7 February 1924, the son of Henry Talbot Hamilton, a general practitioner, and Elsie Maud Hamilton née Gibson, a nursing sister. He attended Melbourne Grammar School, where he gained a Witherby scholarship, and then Melbourne University. He qualified MB BS in 1946. He was a resident and registrar at the Alfred Hospital from 1946 to 1949, and then became an associate surgeon there. In 1953 he went to the UK, as a surgical registrar in the Clywd and Deeside region, north Wales, and at New End Hospital in London. In 1955 he returned to Melbourne and the Alfred Hospital, where he was an assistant surgeon, surgeon to outpatients (from 1956 to 1962) and then to inpatients (1962 to 1984). From 1976 to 1984 he was senior surgeon at the hospital and on the board of management there. From 1984 he was a consultant surgeon at the Alfred Hospital. He was an examiner in surgery for Melbourne and Monash universities, and sub dean and dean at the Alfred Hospital. He was an associate of the faculty, Monash University, from 1974 to 1995. In his spare time, he bred Murray Grey cattle and enjoyed golf. In August 1962 he married Mary Elizabeth Selle, a physiotherapist. They had four children, Andrew Talbot, Elizabeth Jane, Anne Louise and David Talbot. Nicholas Talbot Hamilton died on 29 June 2014. He was 90.
