After qualifying MB BS at Osmaria University, Rai came to Britain and worked at Hereford General Hospital before gaining both the Membership and the Fellowship in May 1959. Thereafter he practised at Narayanguda, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. He died on 30 June 1973.
