Details
Muhammad Siddiqui was born on 12 July 1902, and graduated at King George's Medical College, Lucknow in 1928. In 1932 he became Professor of Anatomy in the same College, and later came to England to obtain the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1935, and the Fellowship in 1937. After his return to Lucknow he was made Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Principal of the King George's Medical College in 1940. In 1941 Siddiqui moved to Lahore to act as Professor of Anatomy in the King Edward Medical College, and Medical Superintendent of the Hospital; and in 1948 he became Professor of Surgery at the Medical College in Lahore. In 1953 he moved again to Karachi to become Professor of Surgery at Dow Medical College and held this post till his retirement in 1966. At that time he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and in 1967 was given the title of Professor Emeritus. Siddiqui was a member of the Academic Council of Karachi University, and of the Pakistan Medical Council, and he made notable contributions to the establishment of postgraduate education, and to the foundation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. This remarkable man also had an arts degree from Toronto, and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He died in Lahore on 27 August 1971.
