Details
Kenneth Charles Trineman Rawle was born at Exeter, Devon, on 7 September 1902. The family moved to Australia in 1913. He was educated at Blackheath Public School, NSW, Sydney Boys' High School and at Sydney University. In 1926 he graduated MB ChM with first-class honours, the University Medal and the Sands Prize for clinical surgery and spent four years in postgraduate posts. In 1930 he passed the Primary in May and the Final FRCS in November. He spent two years in various surgical posts in England and then returned to Australia. In 1934 he bought a practice in Orange and was appointed surgeon to Orange Base Hospital. He was a good surgeon with a wide knowledge and kept abreast of the times. He had joined the RAAMC in 1938 and in 1941 was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel to form 104 Casualty Clearing Station which operated in Western Australia. It was disbanded in 1946 and he was awarded the Efficiency Decoration. He returned to active general practice. He obtained the FRACS in 1956 and the FRACGP as a foundation member in 1953. He was an active member of Legacy and for his services to medicine and the citizens of Australia he was honoured by the Queen with the award of an OBE. He married Marjorie Hogg in 1933 and they had two daughters. He had a wide range of interests including trout fishing, woodwork, astronomy and bowls. He died on 24 July 1978, aged 75 years.
