Details
Alfred Henry (Harry) Swithinbank graduated with honours from Liverpool University in 1943 and after resident appointments, he took the DA in 1945 and served in the Far East as an anaesthetic specialist in the Royal Army Medical Corps, attaining the rank of Major. He was a senior registrar at Stanley and Walton Hospitals, Liverpool, before being appointed consultant general surgeon to Wigan Royal Infirmary. Harry was a sensitive and retiring man, conscientious in his patient care and, until he was overtaken by ill health, very hard working. He was a member of the Leigh Duodecimals, a literary society concerned with the reading of Shakespeare. He was also fond of gardening. He died on 15 February 1987 survived by his wife and his son and daughter.
