Details
George Neville Taylor was born at Bangor, County Down, on 6 September 1910 the son of George Edward Taylor, an insurance broker and after early education he qualified from Dublin in 1934. He carried out house appointments in Dublin before coming to England where he was surgical registrar at King George Hospital, Ilford, and later at the Albert Dock Hospital. He passed the FRCS in 1944 and, after the war, entered the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve where he was made a surgical specialist reaching the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander at the time of demobilisation in October 1947. He was then appointed surgeon to Wanstead Hospital and to the Forest Hospital, Buckhurst Hill. He served as chairman of the hospital management committee and throughout his professional life was a regular attender at meetings of the Section of Surgery at the Royal Society of Medicine. In addition to his hospital work he also practised privately from Harley Street. He married Pamela Whipp, a state registered nurse, on 20 October 1945 and there were two sons and two daughters of the marriage. His younger daughter has qualified both as a nurse and a midwife. His chief outside interest was golf. He died on 25 December 1988 and is survived by his wife and four children.
