Johnson qualified MB ChB Liverpool in 1962 and gained his Fellowship in 1969. He practised mostly on Merseyside and in 1974 became consultant surgeon at Warrington General Hospital, in which post he continued until his death on 6 April 1996 at the age of fifty eight. He was survived by his widow, Margaret.
