Jack Gardiner Wigley was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge and St Thomas's Hospital, qualifying with the conjoint diploma and the Cambridge MB BChir in 1926, and obtained the Fellowship in 1929. Specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, he was clinical assistant at the Grosvenor Hospital for Women and registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at St Thomas's Hospital, before becoming consultant in the same specialties to the Chester Area of the Liverpool and Welsh Hospital Board. He retired in 1969 and spent many years in retirement on Malta, before returning to Malpas, Cheshire, where he died in September 1991. His wife Millicent survived him, but died in 1993.
