He was appointed consultant general surgeon at the West Middlesex Hospital and the Royal Masonic Hospital. He died suddenly on 31 August 1999, aged 71 years, survived by his wife, Janet, children, Simon, Peter, and Susannah, and granddaughter, Sarah.
