Details
John Myers was a consultant surgeon in the accident and emergency department at Newham General Hospital in the East End of London. He qualified from St Mary's in 1968, where he did junior posts before passing the FRCS. He went on to be a casualty officer at St Thomas's Hospital, London, then a registrar at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield. He was subsequently a senior registrar at Whipps Cross and St Bartholomew's. At Newham, he ran the accident and emergency department for many years single-handed. A born teacher, he inspired loyalty in his trainees, and was much in demand as a lecturer on medico-legal matters. He was an outstanding athlete, and even after major surgery returned to training in martial arts and running. He died of a carcinoma of the oesophagus on 27 March 2000. He was married to Celia and they had one son.
