Jeremiah Dominic Hennessy was a consultant general surgeon at Sandwell District General Hospital. He was born in Cork, Ireland, on 5 August 1922, the son of Michael Joseph Hennessy, a draper, and Margaret Hennessy née O'Brien, a housewife. He was educated at Greenmount National School and Presentation College, Cork, before going on to study medicine at University College Cork, qualifying in 1945. From 1947 to 1949 he was a flight lieutenant in the RAF. After appointments as a house surgeon at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and St James's Hospital, Leeds, and as a senior surgical registrar in Coventry, he was appointed to his consultant post in Sandwell. At Sandwell he was the postgraduate clinical tutor from 1967 to 1973, and chairman of the medical executive committee from 1981 to 1986. He was president of the West Midlands Surgical Society from 1983 to 1984, and was a founder member of the Midlands Urological Club and the West Midlands Oncology Group. Outside medicine he enjoyed sailing, hillwalking and running. In 1947 he married Doris Agnes, a nurse. They had three daughters and one son. Jeremiah Dominic Hennessy died on 2 December 2013. He was 91.
