Details
Amarish Jagmohan Parikh was a surgeon who lived and worked in Ahmedabad, India. He was born in Umreth in Gujarat State, India on 2 March 1934, the seventh child and fourth son of Jagmohan Lalbhai Parikh, a civil judge, and Saraswati Parikh née Chokshi. He attended the Government High School, Nadiad, Gujarat and then studied at the Gujarat College in Ahmedabad and at the B J Medical College, also in Ahmedabad. He graduated in 1957, first in the final MB BS and winning all the college and university prizes, scholarships and gold medals. He went to the UK, where he gained his fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of England in 1962. He returned to Ahmedabad, where he was a member of the managing committee of the Ahmedabad Medical Society from 1967 to 1969 and secretary of the Ahmedabad Surgical Society in 1968. Outside medicine he enjoyed swimming, badminton, chess and reading. In 1960, he married Tarla Kotdawala, a doctor. They had three sons. Parikh died in 2014.
