Apprenticed to Mr Jukes at the Birmingham General Hospital, he succeeded his master as Surgeon to the institution in September, 1843. He married the eldest daughter of Dr G E Male (d. 1845), Physician to the Birmingham General Hospital from June, 1805, to September, 1841.
