Details:
Born at Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, where his family was well known and his father and brother were in practice as solicitors. In 1887 he entered the Middlesex Hospital, where he displayed steady energy as a student and held the posts of House Surgeon and Obstetric Officer. Later he was House Surgeon at the Great Northern Hospital. Settling at Bristol in 1895, he soon acquired a good practice. At the time of his premature death he was Surgeon to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Women and was also Medical Officer to the Maternity Home (Southwell House) and the Surgical Aid Society. He died from thrombosis at his residence, 1 Burlington Road, Bristol, on December 22nd, 1906, leaving a widow and three young children. He dated his illness from the time when he operated on a child for appendicitis, and himself, strangely enough, developed the disease. He underwent an operation and had apparently recovered from its effects, when his sudden death occurred. His funeral service was held at Tyndale Chapel, of which he was a Deacon.
