On September 18th, 1835, he was promoted to Surgeon of the 36th Regiment of Foot, and retired on half pay on June 11th, 1841. The fact of his being a half-pay Surgeon is noted in the Fellows' *Register*, where his regiment is wrongly given as the 26th.
