Details:
Born on 28 January 1917 he was educated at St Paul's School and Caius College, Cambridge, where he obtained a first class in the Natural Sciences Tripos of 1938, proceeding to St Bartholomew's Hospital for his clinical studies. He qualified in 1941 and entered the RAMC in which he rose to the rank of Major. While in the Army he was specially selected by Sir Hugh Cairns as a trainee for neurosurgery, a sure proof of his potentialities. After the war he became a senior registrar at St Bartholomew's and at the Royal Marsden Hospital, and was in due course appointed consultant in general surgery to the Metropolitan, St Leonard's, Bethnal Green, and St Andrew's, Dollis Hill, Hospitals. He was an excellent teacher and continued to work in that capacity at St Bartholomew's after his appointment to other hospitals. A bold and skilful surgeon of sound judgment, his particular interest lay in the field of urology. A modest and rather shy personality tended to obscure his great ability. He died suddenly after a short illness on 23 December 1963 aged 46 survived by his wife and children.
