Lyn Jarrett was a consultant in accident and emergency surgery at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. He was born on 18 September 1946 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. His father, Neville Jarrett, was a banker and his mother, Rosamond née Morrison, a housewife. He was educated at the Methodist Boys’ High School and the Prince of Wales School in Freetown, before going to England in 1966 to study medicine at Newcastle. After qualifying, he completed house officer jobs at Sunderland General Hospital and a senior house officer post at Nottingham General Hospital, where he continued to train in surgery. He then moved to the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, and to registrar posts at Derby Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital, before being appointed as a consultant in accident and emergency surgery at the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, in 1987. He developed an interest in sports injury during his training in accident and emergency surgery and was medical consultant to Nottingham Forest Football Club for more than 20 years. He was also chief medical officer at the Donington Park Racing Circuit and medical consultant to the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team. He married Resil Nicol-Cole, a solicitor, and had two daughters, Lynne and Nnenna, both of whom followed careers in marketing. Lyn died after a brief illness on 8 December 2006.
