Details
William Giles Manson was a consultant paediatric surgeon at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. He was born on 16 January 1965. He went to Edinburgh University to study medicine, qualifying MB ChB in 1989. He went on to train in surgery in Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Hong Kong, and in 2002 was appointed to a new combined consultant post in Dundee and Edinburgh. He was particularly interested in laparoscopic surgery and urology, and was a pioneer in the use of telemedicine. Outside medicine, he enjoyed skiing, golf, music and DIY. He died from gastric carcinoma on 17 May 2008, aged just 43. He was survived by his wife, Christine, and their two sons, Andrew and Stuart.
