:
Hewet was educated at Manchester University where he gained a BSc and qualified MB ChB with honours in 1944, and gained his Fellowship in 1949. After qualification he was resident surgical officer and chief assistant in the surgical unit at Manchester Royal Infirmary, before becoming consultant surgeon to the Stockport and Buxton Hospitals Group. He retired in 1986 and moved to Paignton where he died on 13 September 1994; his wife predeceased him, but he was survived by a son and five daughters.
