Hugh Ernest Marsden was born on 17 June 1917 in Australia and qualified MB, BS from Sydney University before travelling to the UK to study for his fellowship. He worked as a surgical registrar at the Rochford General Hospital and passed his FRCS in 1952. On his return to Australia, he was appointed surgeon at the Woolongong District Hospital and became a consultant in trauma and orthopaedics.
He died on 8 June 2005 aged 87.
