Jeffrey Irvin Sellers was born on 28 February 1931. He studied medicine at Birmingham University and proceeded to specialise in ophthalmology. After house jobs at the Royal Free Hospital in London he moved to Sheffield where he worked as a clinical tutor at the university and as a senior registrar at the Sheffield United Hospitals. He passed the fellowship of the college in 1964. Eventually he was appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon to the York Health District.
He died on 1 August 2018 aged 87.
