Details
Russell Alexander Gill was a consultant general surgeon in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. He was born in the East End of London on 14 February 1918, the son of Russell Alexander Gill, a clerk who served as a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery in the First World War, and Lucy Emily Gill née Baker. He studied medicine at Guy’s Hospital Medical School during the Second World War, qualifying with the conjoint examination in 1941 and the MB BS in 1942. He gained his FRCS in 1945. In the 1950s he emigrated to Canada, initially to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He later moved to Ontario, where he was a surgeon at Oshawa General Hospital and a consultant surgeon at Bowmanville Hospital. In 1941 he married Martha Hurl Kenny. They had two sons and a daughter. Gill died on 18 July 2005. He was 87.
