Details
Keith Douglas Okey qualified MB, BS from Sydney University in 1963 and passed the fellowship of the college in 1967. He worked as a general surgeon in Sydney. While he was in London continuing his studies he bought an antique silver christening mug in the Portabello Road market in 1968 and it was to be the start of his collecting career. Back in Australia, in 1973, he bought Denham Court, a six bedroom homestead with large grounds dating from 1812 and began to fill it with elegant antiques. In 2010, when he was 72 and suffering from Parkinson’s disease, he sold the house and its valuable contents as he felt that he and his wife were unable to deal with the maintenance any longer. He died on 4 September 2012, survived by his wife Patricia and four sons.
