Markandu Thambirajah was a family practitioner in Hudson, New York. He was born on 5 October 1935 in northern Ceylon, the son of Naganather Markandu and Sellathura Mutheesvary, and studied medicine at the University of Ceylon.
He gained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1967 and became a family practitioner in the city of Hudson.
Thambirajah died on 9 January 2002 at the age of 66.
