Details
Peter John Heery was a thoracic surgeon in Sydney, New South Wales. He was born in 1925, the son of Edward Charles (Eddy) Heery and Daphne Ivy Heery née Young. He studied medicine at the University of Sydney and qualified in 1947. He went to the UK for further training. He was a surgical registrar at the London Chest Hospital and gained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1953. He returned to Sydney in the 1950s, where he was a consultant thoracic surgeon at the Randwick Chest Hospital and an assistant thoracic surgeon at Lewisham Hospital. He later became an assistant thoracic surgeon at St Vincent’s Hospital and a thoracic surgeon at Lewisham Hospital. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1961. In 1952 he married Barbara Mary Kain. He later married Marguerite. Predeceased by his son Guy, Heery died on 22 October 2012 at the age of 87 and was survived by Marguerite, and children Stephen, Fiona and Peter.
