Details
Frederick Henry Duncan Hutter, known as Duncan, was an air commodore in the medical branch of the Royal Air Force. He was born on 6 September 1917, the son of Henry Joseph Hutter and Elise Hutter née Lutz. He attended St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and qualified with the conjoint examination in 1940. He was a house physician at Archway Hospital, London, and then held other junior posts in the Emergency Medical Service, at Amersham Hospital and St Bernard’s Hospital, Hanwell. From 1940 to 1945 he served as a surgeon in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He gained his FRCS in 1946 and his MB BS in 1948. He was subsequently a resident surgeon at Winterton Emergency Hospital in Sedgefield and a senior surgical registrar at Sedgefield General Hospital. He then joined the medical branch of the Royal Air Force. During his career he served at RAF hospitals in Halton, Wroughton, Wegberg in West Germany and Akrotiri on Cyprus. His final post, with the rank of air commodore, was at Princess Mary’s RAF Hospital, Halton. In 1941 he married Mary C Archer-Quigley. In 1997 he married Patricia (Pat) S Condie. Hutter died on 17 January 2010 in Worthing, West Sussex. He was 92.
