Details
John Solomon Indyk, known as Jack, was a surgeon in Sydney, New South Wales. He was born in Poland in 1922, the son of Saul Indyk and Phylis Indyk née Cooper and emigrated with his family to Australia as a child. He studied medicine at Sydney University and qualified in 1945. He went to the UK for surgical training. He was a surgical registrar at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield and gained his FRCS in 1951. He then went to New Zealand, as a senior surgical registrar on the cardiothoracic surgical unit, Green Lane Hospital, Auckland. He returned to Australia, to Sydney, where he became a surgical tutor at the Royal North Shore Hospital and an honorary surgeon at the Prince Henry Hospital. He co-authored several papers, specifically on thyroid surgery. He became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1953. In 1948 he married Mary Korman. Indyk died on 26 April 2012 in Sydney.
