Alan Graeme Foulds Gibson was born in December 1945 and studied medicine at Bristol University, graduating MB, ChB in 1970. He did house jobs in orthopaedics at Southmead Hospital in Bristol before travelling to the Sultanate of Oman to work as a senior orthopaedic specialist at the Qaboos Hospital in Salalah. In 1977 he passed the fellowship of the college. On his return to Bristol he was appointed specialist surgeon in orthopaedics to the North Bristol NHS Trust and was also medical advisor to the British Hang-gliding and Paragliding Association.
He died on 26 February 2021 aged 75.
