Gerald Joseph Kane was a general surgeon who lived in California. He was born on 6 February 1922 in Standerton, South Africa, the son of Montague Kane and Sarah Sybil Kane née Hurwitz. He studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and qualified in 1948. He went to the UK and gained his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1953. By 1955 he had returned to Johannesburg. He later emigrated to the United States. He married Sylvia Rita Boner in 1948 in Johannesburg. Kane died on 4 March 2002 in San Diego, California. He was 80.
