Details
Norman Vincenti was a group captain in the medical branch of the Royal Air Force and a consultant ENT surgeon. He was born on 5 December 1926 on Malta, the eldest of three sons of Edward Albert Vincenti, a civil servant, and Josephine Vincenti née Fiteni, the daughter of a judge. He was educated at the Lyceum Preparatory and Secondary School and went on to study medicine at the Royal University of Malta, qualifying in 1949. He was an ENT and general house surgeon at Grimley and District General Hospital, an ENT and general house surgeon at Lincoln County Hospital, a junior registrar in the ENT department at Sheffield Royal Infirmary and an ENT registrar at Ipswich and East Suffolk Hospital. He was then first assistant to the professorial unit at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, London. He gained his diploma in otolaryngology in 1954 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1968 and of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1969. He subsequently joined the RAF as a consultant ENT surgeon. His postings took him all over the UK as well as overseas, including Germany. Outside medicine he enjoyed tennis, golf and swimming. In 1954 he married a Miss A Castaldi. He died on 31 August 2018 in the Mater Dei Hospital, Malta, at the age of 91 after a long battle with cancer. He was survived by his wife Rosemarie, three sons (Andrew, Mark and Simon), daughter (Amanda), six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
