Details
Colin Martin Wesson was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Luton and Dunstable and Queen Elizabeth II Welwyn Garden City hospitals. He was born in Finchley, north London and educated at Mill Hill School. He studied dentistry at the Royal Dental Hospital in London, where he won a prize for local anaesthesia and qualified in 1958. He was in general dental practice from 1958 to 1959 and then continued his medical studies at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, where he gained the Sir William Broadbent prize in cardiology. He gained his fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1968. He was a senior registrar at King’s College Hospital and the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead and then, in 1971, was appointed as a consultant to the Luton and mid-Hertfordshire hospitals. Outside medicine, he was active in his local Anglican church in Berkhamsted. He retired slightly early, in 1999, following a diagnosis of prostate cancer and moved to Devon. He spent his final year in a nursing home. Wesson died on 26 September 2011 and was survived by his wife Louise (née Temlett), children David and Sarah, and three granddaughters.
