At Worcester, after attending the University Hospital of Zürich, he introduced operations to correct facial deformity, pioneered in Switzerland, and, with his anaesthetist, he developed a new laryngoscope. He had working exchanges with consultant colleagues in Napier, New Zealand and Kampala, Uganda. Outside medicine he enjoyed tennis, skiing, sailing and golf, which he took up in his retirement.
