Details
John Tresadern was a consultant general surgeon with an interest in breast disease at Blackburn. He was born in Southport on 20 February 1947, the son of Florence Mary Tresadern née Rimmer and Christopher Charles Tresadern. He was educated at St Mary’s College, Crosby and then St Edmund Hall, University of Oxfrod, from 1967 to 1973. After graduating, he worked in a number of hospitals, including Leighton Hospital in Crewe and Sheffield Royal and Children’s hospitals, before returning to the Greater Manchester area, where he worked at Salford Royal, Hope and Withington hospitals. He was appointed to his consultant post at the Royal Blackburn Hospital in 1988 and retired in 2007. For most of his career John worked in general surgery but developed an interest in breast surgery in which he specialised for much of his time at Blackburn, helping to set up the East Lancashire Breast Unit. He devoted much of his time to this and was highly thought of by colleagues and patients for his skill and gentle manner. John died on 4 September 2023 in the Royal Preston Hospital and was survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat (née Andrews), three sons and six grandchildren.
