Oscar Joseph Martins was a dental surgeon and orthodontist who lived in Enfield. He was born on 12 July 1933 in Bombay, India. He studied dentistry in Bombay and gained his BDS, then went to the UK, where he gained his diploma in orthodontics and his fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1960. He returned to Bombay in 1965. He started the orthodontic department in Bombay Hospital and also built a successful private dental practice. He married Stella Martins, a doctor, in 1966 and had two sons, Karl and Roy. In 1980 the family moved to the UK, where Oscar worked at Highlands Hospital in Enfield, the Enfield Dental Community Service and in private practice. He retired in 1998 but continued with private practice for many years after. Oscar enjoyed watching many sports and played badminton well after retirement. He was an active member and former president of the Rotary Club of Bush Hill Park, Enfield. He did voluntary driving for the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre in Enfield. He died on 13 August 2024 and was survived by his wife Stella, sons Karl and Roy, and grandchildren Larissa, Antara and Armaan.
