Details
Born in 1819. He was one of the Surgeons of the parish of St Mary, Newington, and in this capacity was called a 'cholera surgeon'. He was also Surgeon to the Royal South London Dispensary, Medical Referee to the Merchants and Tradesmen's Life Assurance Society, and a member of the South London Medical Society. In 1853 he was appointed Surgeon of the Queen's Own Light Infantry Tower Hamlets Militia. He practised at 4 Brighton Place, New Kent Road, and then at North Side, Bethnal Green, where he died of heart disease, from which he had suffered for some years, on September 19th, 1854. Publications: Lewis frequently contributed "Hospital Reports" as well as other papers to the *Lancet* "On the Treatment of Gleet". In the *Lond Med Gaz*, 1842, NS i, 291, he published a paper on the "Treatment of Apoplexy", and was a contributor to other medical journals.
