Details
Studied at the University of Liverpool, and in 1903 was House Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary. During 1904 and 1905 he was Gee Fellow, Junior Demonstrator of Anatomy, Holt Fellow and Demonstrator of Pathology. In 1905 he joined the Indian Medical Service and was appointed to the 51st Sikhs in the Frontier Force, and Civil Surgeon to the Khyber Agency. Under the Political Department he saw service in the Native States in Persia, and upon the Delimitation Commission on the Turko-Persian Frontier. He was a fine linguist, having knowledge of Persian, Afghani, and Urdu, personally fearless, with a wide knowledge of medicine, and, owing to his training at Liverpool under Sir Robert Jones, especially competent in orthopaedics. During the War (1914-1918) he was first Assistant to his Commandant, Colonel H Halliday, then himself the Commandant with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel IMS, engaged in organizing the great war hospital at Ambala. He installed elaborate orthopaedic and electrical appliances, his only helpers being natives from the bazaar. For his good work he was awarded the OBE. After the War he was stationed as Residency Surgeon at Bushire, and for the last few years before his death he was Superintendent of the X-ray Institute at Dehra Dum. He died on July 28th, 1927.
