Details
Born on October 21st, 1814, and entered the Bombay Army on January 2nd, 1843. He was promoted to Surgeon on June 9th, 1860, to Surgeon Major on January 2nd, 1863, and to Deputy Inspector-General of Hospitals on July 17th, 1872. He saw active service in China in 1841-1842 as Surgeon of the HEIC's steamship *Nemesis*, and is mentioned by Colonel Sykes for his services in this vessel. During the war he was present at the capture of Amoy and Chusan, the occupation of Ningpo, the assault and capture of Chapu, the occupation of Nankin, the capture of Canton and Taisan: he received the Medal and was mentioned in dispatches (*London Gazette*, 1841, June 11). In the Indian Mutiny he took part in the Central India Campaign and the pursuit of Tantia Topi, for which he received the Medal. Turner retired on October 31st, 1874, and died at Bath on November 23rd, 1889.
