After serving as house surgeon at the Christchurch Public Hospital he came to England and held resident posts at the Queen Mary, the Dreadnought, and the Richmond Hospitals. After taking the Fellowship, though not previously a Member of the College, in December 1929, he went back to New Zealand, and was appointed assistant medical superintendent at the Christchurch Public Hospital. He practised at 70 Gloucester Street, Christchurch, and was surgeon to Christchurch Hospital. He was an excellent and keen player of golf, but died suddenly of a heart attack during a game on 19 December 1937, which is midsummer at the antipodes. He was survived by his wife and child.
