Details
Born on 25 November 1902, he was educated at Carlisle Grammar School and Leeds University. He obtained honours in his final qualifying examination and then settled in partnership in general practice at Loughborough. Taking the DLO in 1928 he took a special and increasing interest in ear nose and throat surgery and was appointed aural consultant to the Leicester and Newcastle-under-Lyme Education Committee in 1940. In 1941 he became attached to Leicester Royal Infirmary as a clinical assistant in the Ear Nose and Throat Department, and in 1946 he was elected to the consultant staff of the hospital. He possessed great diagnostic powers and wise judgment in many other fields of medicine outside his own specialty. He was particularly interested in aural surgery as it affected children. A magistrate in Leicester, he was secretary of the Leicester Medical Society. An athlete of distinction he was proficient in swimming, diving, Rugby football, golf, being at one time President of Leicestershire Golf Club and Captain of Charnwood Forest GC, was interested in racing and horse breeding, for he bred a champion foal of Yorkshire, and he was also a skilful bridge player. He died suddenly in hospital on 28 December 1963 survived by his wife Nan, whom he married in 1962. Publications: Blue drum or idiopathic haemotympanum in children. *Brit med J* 1941, 2, 86.
