Details
Born on 13 May 1870, son of William Parry, manufacturing chemist, he received his medical education at Guy's Hospital, where while a student he was President of the Physical Society, and where after qualification he was appointed a house physician. Later he acted as physician to the St Pancras and Northern Dispensary. During the war of 1914-18 he served as a Captain in the RAMC. Moving to Hove, he became consulting surgeon to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Sick Children, Brighton, the Hove Cripples Guild and Barnardo's School for Blind Boys. An active member of the BMA over many years, he was secretary of the Brighton Division for sixteen years, treasurer during 1929-31 and chairman in 1936-37. He was also President of the Sussex Branch from 1942 to 1949. A member of Council of the BMA, he was President of the Sections for Diseases of Children and for Medical Sociology in 1923 and again in 1931 and he was responsible for the BMA *Report on Mental Deficiency* in 1932. He was keenly interested in forensic medicine and the relation of medicine to public authorities. As an author he wrote on some famous medical trials, on the history of torture in England, and on criminal abortion. His wife, whom he had married in 1898, died in 1951; they had four daughters and a son who died in Malaya. He died suddenly on 19 February 1958 aged 87.
