Details
Harold Park was horn on 26 July 1909 at Preston, Lancashire, and studied medicine in Edinburgh, qualifying in 1932. His early appointments included the posts of casualty officer at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, and resident medical officer at St Paul's Hospital for Genito-Urinary Diseases. In 1938 he passed the FRCS and was appointed resident surgical officer at Brighton Municipal Hospital where he remained throughout the war years. In 1945 he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and served in the Middle East as surgical specialist with the rank of Major. Returning to Brighton he was appointed consultant surgeon to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and the Brighton General Hospital as the municipal hospital was re-named at the commencement of the National Health Service in 1948. He was President of the Brighton Medico-Chirurgical Society in 1973, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and of the Association of Surgeons. Despite his full commitment to surgical practice he found time to serve as a magistrate on the Hove bench. After retiring from surgical practice he served as chairman of the Hove club and became an active member of the Drive Bowling Club. He married in 1945 Dr Emily Smith who had been house surgeon at Brighton Municipal Hospital and they had three daughters, one of whom is in general practice. He died suddenly on 12 July 1984.
