Details
Patrick Kiely was professor of surgery at University College Cork. He studied medicine at Cork, gaining a BSc in 1918 and qualifying MB BCH BAO in 1920. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1926. He was a house physician and radiologist at the South Infirmary, Cork, and then a visiting medical officer at South Cork County Home and Hospital. He was subsequently appointed as a surgeon at the South Infirmary and at the Bon Sécours and Mercy hospitals, Cork, and as professor of surgery at University College Cork. He was the author of *Text-book of surgery* (H K Lewis, 1949). He was married to Ellen Christina née Curtain. She died in 1984. Patrick Kiely died on 29 January 1998, aged 101.
