Details
'Peter' Korvin was born on 7 August 1902, the only son of Wilhelm Korvin, a medical practitioner in Vienna, and Alice Müller. He attended the state grammar school in Vienna and Vienna University, where he qualified in 1925. He did his orthopaedic training at the Allgemeines Krankenhaus in Vienna and the Orthopaedic Hospital Heidelberg, before coming to England as a refugee. He then had to qualify all over again and studied at the Medical Schools of Liverpool and Manchester before re qualifying MRCS LRCP in 1941. He was resident surgeon at the Biddulph Orthopaedic Hospital until the end of the war, and was appointed orthopaedic specialist at the EMS Hospital, Park Prewett, Basingstoke, and finally became consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Rooksdown Plastic Surgical Centre. He wrote several papers on Perthes' disease and congenital dislocation of the hip. He married Dr Edith Munster in 1926. They had two sons, one of whom became a consultant physician in Vancouver. He died on 4 April 1995.
