George Peirce received his medical education at St Mary's, St Bartholomew's and the London Hospitals, qualifying with the conjoint diploma and the London MB BS in 1926 and gained his Fellowship in 1934. After junior posts at St Mary's Hospital and the London Lock Hospital he spent the remainder of his career with British Railways, being regional medical officer to the London Midland Region of that organisation. He was also honorary medical officer of the Railway Benevolent Institute and an examiner for the St John Ambulance Association. He wrote chapters and papers on the organisation and operation of medical services and their legal aspects in *Medical services in transport* (1966). He died on 23 October 1991.
