Charles Frederick Noon was a consultant general surgeon at King George and Barking hospitals, Essex. He was born in Norwich on 21 May 1923, the son of Charles Noon, a general surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, and Cicely Elizabeth Ellen Noon née South, a nursing sister. He was educated at Twyford Preparatory School, Winchester, Uppingham School in Rutland and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he studied natural sciences. He later attended St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School. He qualified in 1947 with the conjoint examination and gained his FRCS in 1953. Prior to his consultant appointment, he was a junior registrar on the surgical professorial unit at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, an orthopaedic and general registrar at the Metropolitan Hospital, London and a senior registrar in general surgery at the London Hospital and North East Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board. Outside medicine he enjoyed numismatics, philately and keeping tropical fish. In 1947 he married Margaret Louise, a nursing sister. They had two daughters, Elisabeth Drusilla and Sally Anne, and a son, Christopher Charles, who became a general practitioner. Charles Frederick Noon died on 16 January 2016. He was 92.
